too fun! That Houston traffic can be a little too much to take sometimes.
Just a nit: if you lived inside the loop you wouldn't have been sitting on that freeway, you'd already have been relaxing with your family. One of the reasons I am happy to live in a small house a couple of miles from my downtown office is that I almost NEVER have to deal with any of that. I drive to work, but it takes 12 minutes, involves no freeways, and if I'm not in the mood I just walk around the corner, hop on a bus, and get there in 20 minutes totally relaxed after having a little time to myself.
The worst traffic I have ever experience in this area is in Katy, in fact.
I'm not being critical, just pointing out that traffic isn't the problem with living close to the center of the city - it's a REASON many of us do. A small, comfy house, nice neighbors, and never depending on the car - that's what some of us call paradise.
(And yes, I understand there are good reasons people live where you do, and that's why we have options in this life.)
But do come back - if you've spent three years here without spending an afternoon in Hermann Park, taking your kids to the science museum, going to one of the great festivals like the art festival in Memorial Park or iFest downtown, or going to Discovery Green, or taking a time out in the Rothko Temple, or just enjoying a sidewalk cafe in Montrose, you're missing out on so much of what's wonderful about Houston!
(But please - don't "weave" through the traffic - signal, check your mirrors, and change lanes safely, and not too frequently!)
